For more than 16 years, Sarah has been a dedicated volunteer with Home-Start Cambridgeshire, providing encouragement, understanding and practical support to families during some of the most challenging times in their lives.
After retiring from teaching, Sarah was looking for a meaningful way to continue working with children and supporting families in her local community. Inspired by her love of children and a desire to help parents who may be feeling isolated or overwhelmed, she joined Home-Start Cambridgeshire and has been making a difference ever since.
Throughout her years as a volunteer, Sarah has supported many families, offering a listening ear, reassurance and encouragement without judgement. She understands that parenting can sometimes feel overwhelming and believes that having someone to talk to can help parents rediscover their confidence and recognise their own strengths.
Reflecting on her role as a Home-Start volunteer, Sarah says, “It is a privilege to be trusted by a young, vulnerable parent or couple and to support them at a time when they may be feeling nothing but a sense of failure.”
For Sarah, volunteering is about building relationships based on trust, empathy and kindness. She values the opportunity to walk alongside families as they overcome challenges and celebrate achievements, no matter how small.
Sarah also recognises the importance of the support she receives as a volunteer and appreciates being part of a team that shares the same commitment to helping families thrive. She values the guidance and encouragement provided by Home-Start Cambridgeshire’s co-ordinators and staff team, knowing they are always there to offer advice and support when needed.
We would like to thank Sarah for her outstanding dedication and commitment over the past 16 years. Her compassion, experience and kindness have made a lasting difference to the lives of countless children and families across Cambridgeshire.
