Child and adult hands volunteering for Home-Start

Our little angel came to us with the help of IVF ( 2nd attempt) after 14 years of medical tests, medications, operations etc together with lots of physical and mental stress throughout this period.

I thought all the stress and pain would be over after I got pregnant, but it wasn’t. I suffered from stress all through my pregnancy, had complications during my labour and ended up having a caesarean.

After a week I was able to bring him home but I started worrying about one thing after another; I was totally down and suffered from anxiety.

I was so lucky to have a very nice health visitor who talked to me lots and tried to help me to overcome my anxiety but I felt like I was abandoned and isolated in the middle of nowhere and felt more fear and loneliness.

I was so lucky that the Home-Start family support charity was introduced to me. Emma, one of co-ordinators, is a wonderful lady who came to my home. She understood about my mental and health conditions and my needs, especially how to manage things with the baby etc. She then made a schedule with a plan for 6 months to help me overcome my anxiety and fear.

Then I was introduced to a very kind volunteer who came to my home once a week for 2 hours. She shared her experiences with me and helped me by looking after the baby whilst I had a meal, did some cooking or have a shower; also she was able to go out with me for a coffee or attend baby groups etc. Gradually, day by day I was able to start going out with the baby which I didn’t do before. I’m very grateful to all the staff at Home-Start who deliver such a nice service to people. After 6 month I feel more confident about myself and am thinking positively, moreover I’m a great mum to my sweet little baby boy. I would love to join with Home-Start one day to help others.

Thank you Home-Start
